Follow-up Comment #2, bug #57236 (project octave):
FWIW, in the io package spreadsheet I/O, most of the code comprises calling
private functions from other private functions and I just checked that io
still works with Octave from Nov. 16.
But there's the point that tests in private functions just don't work. That is
a very old documented bug.
