Follow-up Comment #8, bug #56640 (project octave):

I can't rule that out, and if you look at the screenshots, the last one where
Octave is working again, you can actually see the GUI working in the small
screen icon at the taskbar.

In the case where the GUI didn't pop up, the small screen icon was only white
with a different form factor.

Anyway, it helped delete the qt-settings file, so the answer would be in
there. Therefore I have attached the old qt-settings file and the new one, so
that they can be compared, in case someone with in-depth knowledge have the
time for it.
