Update of bug #40105 (project octave):

                Severity:               2 - Minor => 1 - Wish               
                Priority:              5 - Normal => 1 - Later              


Follow-up Comment #5:

Lowering the priority and changing the severity to "Wish".  There are
workarounds available, either using spdiags to stay in all sparse matrices, or
using diagonal matrice of class double (storage is 8 bytes per entry rather
than 1 byte for logical, but since only the N elements of the diagonal are
stored I really don't think this is going to be a problem).

And as David B. noted 6 years ago, this would require a hell of a lot of
re-working of the diagonal class and all of the operators to support this use
