Follow-up Comment #7:

Whats the path to the xkbcommon.pc file ?
on unbuntu 18, it is /usr/lib/x86_64-pc-gnu-linux/pkgconfig/xkbcommon.pc

but it it doesnt have that path, it defauls to /usr/lib/pkgconfig

You can override it by setting BUILD_PKG_CONFIG_PATH to something else when
running make:

ie: 

make BUILD_PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/lib64/pkgconfig
