Follow-up Comment #5, bug #55728 (project octave):
It also crashes for me on my Debian system. It's an infinite recursion error
inside the symbol_record class when looking for a variable value.
The problem appears to be fixed in the current development sources (what will
become Octave 6) where the variable storage system has been completely
rewritten.
