Follow-up Comment #26:
The attached patch does what Rik and Mike suggested in comment #25 and comment
#24.
Since the goal is to imitate Windows dir, it also make "dir *.*" show all
entries rather than only those containing a dot.
My understanding is that Windows "dir *" only lists those that have no
extension. I don't think we should copy that, but I'm happy to try.
