Follow-up Comment #2, bug #48285 (project octave):
It might be that the C++ math library is bad, or that it is not present and
you are using the fallback routines within Octave.
It is probably related to this cset:

See bug #45507 in particular where it was reported that gcc 4.8.2 did not have
correct implementations for some of the trig functions.
