Follow-up Comment #3, bug #48195 (project octave): I had once started to work on this function. I attached a very preliminary patch (with many debug/include leftovers etc) that I updated so that it applies to the current default branch. The low level function __get_frame__ catches the pixels of the whole figure (in Qt toolkit only). Then a higher level getframe.m can be written to implement the ML compatible interface. Let me know if it fits the need.
