Details:

As pointed out in "GUI Editor should use ANSI text encoding under Windows"
<http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?45597> there may be file encoding issues.

Rather than force a specific encoding, I have a better suggestion : the GUI
editor should give the user the choice of encoding as it done on Geany (and
many other editor I guess ...). The current encoding should also appear (for
exemple in status bar).

Besides, it would be a feature that Matlab does not seem to offer !
