Follow-up Comment #36, bug #44998 (project octave): Just to clarify, I built the gcc-4.9.2 version without the --enable-binary-packages flag. I the gcc-5.1.0 version, I installed the io and windows package from the /src/ subdir of the gcc-4.9.2 version (so they have no prebuilt .oct files). IOW I tested the compilers on the Windows side. My conclusion is that sticking to gcc-4.9.2 doesn't not look like a wise idea.
