Follow-up Comment #2, bug #40792 (project octave):

to the first question yes deleted from ~/.config
yes i get the welcome wizard ok before the gui
i got the sources first by :
"hg clone http://www.octave.org/hg/octave";
later i do hg pull and hg update 
of course "git" was an error i meant mercurial
