I'm obviously being a bit of a retard here.. help! :) Checked out
nss-mysql CVS, there's no configure scripts. Can you guess I've never
really used CVS much..

I have managed to build it by copying what I did pull from CVS over the
current 0.40 source tree, which compiled fine (whether this is the
'right' thing to do I don’t know). 

MySQL still refuses to start though unless I comment out mysql in
/etc/nsswitch.conf :(

Could you try latest CVS and tell me if it fixes your problem ?
