Locking in nmh is a bit of a mess; there's conflation between "locking
the mail spool" (which a script shouldn't care about) and "locking various
nmh things" (which scripts could conceivably care about). There's not
a way to do what you want right now.
But I'm trying to understand ... what would you do from a script
that would require locking? Obviously if you're using nmh programs
they would do the locking for you. Do you want to do things like
manipulate sequence or context files yourself?
