Personally, I find it very annoying when any command other than folder
changes the current folder. I'd want it left as what it was before.

Indeed!

        ls -l /some/where/deep/in/the/filesystem

does not provide an extraneous "cd" command.
(i understand why implementing it for "ls" would be hard,
but being easy in "nmh" doesn't make it a good idea, either)
