there are not, at least not in any form we'll ever care about.  this has
come up in a few random lists over the years and general consensus is that
it'd be stupid.  too much code out there assumes sizeof(char) == 1.  sorry
but i don't have any specific mail archives references ... just recalling
off the top of my head :).
