Apologies for the late response.
I haev no idea who to contact in Ubuntu to convince them to accept
patches or a new version during a freeze. 2.5.3 has migrated to Debian
testing already, so that could help them sync with Debian a bit.
There's probably some procedure to ask for exceptions, but I'm not on
top of it. All the "Ubuntu maintenance" I do is via Debian, and maybe
read the Ubuntu buglist 3 times a year.
