By the way, the last "text line" in that screenshot, the one that
contains just a coloured tab, is a manifestation of bug #42188
(https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?42188), where, with softwrapping
on, sometimes text after the last coloured item on a line is not
displayed.  Maybe the overcolouring we see here is related.
