[Nano-devel] Does having many syntax highlighting patterns in .nanorc sl

Subject: [Nano-devel] Does having many syntax highlighting patterns in .nanorc slow it down?

Just curious, does having very many syntax highlighting
patterns in my ~/.nanorc file slow nano down at runtime?

It seems to me that having them commented out by default
makes the subtle suggestion to the user that the patterns
should be left commented out unless specifically needed.

If it does not slow nano down, perhaps then they could
all be live (uncommented), but then also provide a new
"set/unset syntaxhighlight" nanorc option. By default,
the patterns would be uncommented, but the syntaxhighlight
option would be unset. Let the user use Alt-y to flip
the on colorizer switch. ;)

As nano gets more and more syntax highlight patterns,
it would seem that it'll get more and more onerous for
new users to have to go through the nanorc.sample and
delete all those '# ' characters just to enable built-in
functionality.
