It's all working a treat now. Thanks again.

Before I go spending the next 25 minutes compiling a nice set of syntax highlighting regexps for Perl, has anyone done one already that I could use as a starter?

Hi Richard,

Did you configure --enable-color too?

Also, if you're using on OS X, you'll need to set TERM to be xterm-color (setenv TERM xterm-color) to get the colors to display - Terminal seems to default to vt100 which isn't able to display colors.

Hope you get it working!

I grabbed the latest version from CVS and after some messing around getting each of the requirements via fink, got the whole thing compiled on OS X. I had done configure with --enable-nanorc and everything went ok, and I've created myself a nice little .nanorc file as follows...

set autoindent
set const
set nowrap
set smooth
set tabsize 4

syntax "perl" ".*\.pl$" ".*\.pm$"
color green "if" "while"

But then when I try and open up any file, a .pl or otherwise, I get this...

command syntax not understood
command color not understood

Error in /Users/richard/.nanorc on line 8: Errors found in .nanorc file
Press return to continue starting nano

So where am I going wrong?
