Try the 1.1 series :)

This has already been done in nano 1.1.x, which is the development
branch.
This is what ^C outputs in 1.1.8:
[ line 52/564 (9%), col 1/65 (1%), char 1674/24001 (6%) ]
I don't know if Chris has considered these changes for the stable
branch. We're pretty conservative about new features in 1.0, normally.
