[monit] ... dead but subsys locked

Hello ....

I have a few processes that crash out during the night.  monit tries to restart 
them, but eventually times out.

If I do:

service <name of service> status, it returns:
<name of process> dead but subsys locked

Is there a way that I can have monit delete the sock file so that it is able to 
recover?
