Monit 5 has been in beta for over a year and is at least as stable as the current production 4.10 version. More so in fact since there has been many bug fixes. Another reason you should try Monit 5 beta is that it starts services synchronous [1] which may fix your problem if you have Monit start DRBD.
[1] Monit 4.10 start services in parallel using threads which could result in a "stamping herd" problem at start up. That is, all services starting at once in parallel. If you have service dependencies this could be a problem.
