Follow-up Comment #3:
MLdonkey configure is able to compile Ocaml itself, in this case it must be
updated to locally compile the Bitstring lib as well.
The dependency problem was also discussed somewhere else some years ago,
afair on the Debian bug tracker: they also wanted to get rid of MLdonkey
providing external libs - like ocamlrss, xml-light, CryptoPP. But otoh lots of
people use Ocaml only for compiling MLDonkey, they do not need Ocaml
permanently installed on their systems, thats what --enable-batch was made for
;)
So, again, I would like to include the Bitstring lib into MLDonkey sourcecode
to continue the present philosophy of MLDonkey, knowing that this may pose a
pita for package maintainers, but it proved pratically for the average user
compiling MLDonkey him/herself.
