use 10.2 ... i had the very same problem but Darwin6.1
solves the prob.. ;) the chars are still weird (NOT ö where
its supposed to be, but the invisible unmovable
files-problem is gone)

i know this problem!
i solved it by moving "mv -R /path" ... the hole path to an
windows partition via smb-mount (i dont think that this
really matters - i think vfat makes it same way) ...
windows is even more tolerant in handling files with "--//--
äöü" and so on ... try it!
