So I applied the upgrade-packages-r2.export patch, is that the same?

Glib is failing with that patch on OSX and Ubuntu at roughly the same
point (Ubuntu gets about 3-4 lines further), with the same message:

configure: error:
*** You must have either have gettext support in your C library, or use the
*** GNU gettext library. (http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/gettext.html

I'll try fresh checkouts and see what happens.
