They did a hundred million dollar plus fund raising round. Things "like 
this" are easy with that kind of money too. Microsoft was not noted as one 
of the investors, from the list I saw.

Look, I'm not a DDG fanboy. You can find plenty of more or less valid 
reasons to hate them, and/or doubt their commitment to privacy, by doing a 
Google search. (Maybe a DDG search too, but less so in the one I just 
did.) However I just don't like un-attributed rumor based assertions, 
especially when multiple web searches of different related phrases, turn 
up no evidence or even a similar implication.

This is rather off topic for this list, so I won't post further about it.
