        This isn't a serious post, just an interesting curiosity.
newyorker.com is one of the few websites that takes seriously alts for
its images (if you don't know, an image tag is allowed to have
alternative text that a browser can display if it can't, or won't, the
image - who but we lynxsters read them?)  They are often earnestly
sincere, which is to say not-funny.  The cartoons are included in the
articles in which they appear in the magazine.  This one amused me
particularly:

        Before sending him off the dock mobsters ask man in cement
shoes whether or not he has eaten recently. "Has it been one full hour
since you ate lunch?"

        Louis Menand wrote the article, which I recommend.

        It'd be nice if I could make alt tags a different color.
