I have these in my lynx.cfg:
  COLOR:0:lightgray:blue          << ! default background
  COLOR:1:yellow:blue
  COLOR:2:black:brightcyan
  COLOR:3:green:white
  COLOR:4:white:blue
  COLOR:5:cyan:blue
  COLOR:6:black:cyan
  COLOR:7:white:brightred

Which gives really pleasing colours.

PS. My Lynx is built with S-Lang.
