2.8.5 is a few years old - checking that, and 2.8.4, both appear to hang 
on the LIST command issued in the ftp connection.  fwiw, w3m also has a 
problem with this site.  opera and some other browsers don't - and looking 
at the commands issued (CWD, PASV, LIST), looks similar enough to lynx 
that I agree it "should" work.  I don't know the answer offhand, but will 
look/see if I can determine the problem.
