Once more, may I urge you to adopt a numbering system
more in tune with those used by other projects.
The "stable" version offered by Gentoo is 2.8.5 (2003 ?  2002 ? ... );
the "testing" version is 2.8.6_pre18 (isn't that a record for "pre" ?).
Make the next version 2.9.0 , then 2.9.1 ... 18 (or wherever it gets to),
then 2.10.0 (instead of 2.8.7).  It might encourage distros like Gentoo
to update their offerings more frequently.  Of course, I mix my own.
