this looks like a good addition to Lynx:
i hope you will submit a revised patch which works properly.
you might want to add to the notation in  lynx.cfg
that giving a non-empty string is equivalent to  -hiddenlinks=merge ,
except that the user will also be able to navigate to them with arrow keys.
someone also needs to add a mention of hidden links in Users Guide:
if you get your patch working, maybe i'll have a go at that.
