I thought Lynx was purely open-sourced FreeWare. In this case,
is it commercial, patented code which allows special exceptions
for NON-commercial use? The Lesser GPL?
Since this patent expires in a couple years anyway [as you said
in the other letter], it's no big deal just to wait, but I am
curious. Initially, I thought it was a simple matter of banning
*all* encryption exports outside North America [which also gets
complicated with Lynx, since it's not developed in any one country
and has download sites all over the world].
On a similar note, I had found an open-sourced, SSH-enabled telnet
client -- a version of NiftyTelnet put together in Sweden -- which
apparently can be downloaded from anywhere *except* the US [but
if you're in Canada, no problem]. Not sure what license it's
under though.
If it hadn't crashed every five minutes, I might have kept it
around. . .
