Philip, while I can't address the issues you mention, I can say that I've
had to quit using the latest screen due to the fact that the output was
less reliable.  I use PPP and telnet to my ISP's site , upon which I run
screen.  I found that after upgrading, I had to do refreshes of individual
screens after almost every operation, while with the older version of
screen, on the same system and same connection, I seldom had to do refreshes.
So I am confirming that there is at least one more person who has found
disasterous changes in the latest screen release.
