Other people will have more precise definitions - but basically Lynx
is rendering characters in the "display" character set (which may be
something like Greek.  But that assumes you have the fonts set up on
your terminal to do the right thing (Lynx cannot tell what fonts you
have, though on Linux console and OS/2 it can load fonts).

It understands a lot of Unicode values - which map to 8-bit display character
sets.  (There is some multibyte support, but I don't know much about setting
