sorry - I got pointed in the wrong direction last night (I did promise
to also make an ncurses patch for you)

But this one isn't due to broken-linkers, but to a mismatch between
some of the ifdef's.  If you send me your config.log and config.cache,
I can probably reconstruct what's going on.
