this is getting off-topic, but the word occurs occasionally
not only in the very serious Financial Times (London),
but even in the very family-oriented Toronto Star.
as for `flames', they are surely personal attacks:
a vigorous defense of your own preferences is not a flame.
i asked my question because i thought it was time to do a survey:
