I guess by the format you are using pine. If you insist in using pine you
may get around the problem by defining your index-format as follow:
index-format = STATUS MSGNO DATE FROMORTO SUBJECT(50)
Only the size of the message will be lost and 50 characters will be given to
the size of the subject. If you don't like this format for all your folders,
you may create a new .pinerc file and start pine with the -p switch when
reading your lynx mail.
