It's a faulty comment, I believe ("<!----- xxx ----->" - odd
number of dashes on each end).

You can use " ` " (backtick) to switch to minimal comment-parsing
mode, or change MINIMAL_COMMENTS (I think it is) in lynx.cfg to
TRUE for a permanent change.
