You might want to look into "weblint" at:
http://www.cre.canon.co.uk/~neilb/weblint/
It is a perl script (which should be able to run on most anything) and
though its current version (1.020) is only up to HTML 3.2, that should be
sufficient for most anything you are trying to put together.

Think of it as testing the docs ... sometimes just as important as testing
the code.
