I know that there has been recent work on making navigation
within long lists of OPTIONs in a SELECT in a FORM more
manageable, including some patches for Lynx by Laura Eaves.
I haven't used them.
The accessibility of such SELECT items and how to improve it is
on the table in the HTML4/CSS2 review in the WAI. See the second
link below for one perspective.
Input (soon) from Laura or anyone who has used the recently added
features would be helpful.
