--  lynx.cfg  has  DEFAULT_EDITOR:/usr/local/bin/edit ,
   which is a simplified -- but quite adequate -- version of Emacs.
   i did ask before (970127) how Lynx actually does the deletion.
   i can try changing  lynx.cfg  to get full Emacs to test this problem,
   but i don't want that as default editor generally.
