Maybe your ethernet hardware isn't very intelligent and has to be set into
promiscuous mode to be able to do multicast. You'd have to look at the
driver (which isn't part of lwip, so people here are unlikely to be able to
help much as we won't know anything about the code).

Using a packet sniffer like wireshark, ethereal, tcpdump.
