The LCP_ECHOINTERVAL option relates to detecting lost PPP links. 
If it's non-zero then the LWIP PPP code sends LCP echo packets every 
LCP_ECHOINTERVAL seconds - if LCP_MAXECHOFAILS packets fail to get an echo 
from the PPP server, then lwip assumes the PPP link is dead and drops the 
connection (signalling this with a callback) - very useful for modem links, 
and it's probably a mistake for it to be turned off by default in the opt.h 
file....

But I doubt it relates to the problem David is seeing.....
