Follow-up Comment #1:

I should have taken the time to better describe this (although this is meant
as a work reminder for myself):
lwip_netconn_do_delconn() seems to correctly handle close-while-write, but
lwip_netconn_do_close() seems to have if/else cases messed up so that after
aborting a running write, the code returns without executing the
close/shutdown requested.
