Me too with lwIP in situations where the MAC driver was slow in sending out.
In this case I just ignored pbufs with ref > 1. Good enough for me, but not a
good option in general, I guess.

That's somewhat off-topic here, but I'd appreaciate if you had more info on
this (maybe in its own bug tracker entry).
