Follow-up Comment #18, bug #27352 (project lwip): Yeah, sorry - it's Monday. It's done not only in the callbacks though. As often as it's used and seeing that a 4-byte memcpy has huge overhead I would benchmark this change before deciding on that choice. I hope it's not being chosen because of IPv6.
