Follow-up Comment #19, bug #20409 (project lwip):

About comment#16, direct access is not very "clean", I prefer
netif_set_link_up()/_down(). But I prefer a message than a direct access to
netif fields in the driver .

Yes

Not necessary, as long the driver error is forwarded...
