Follow-up Comment #1, patch #5863 (project lwip):
You shouldn't try making life so hard for yourself. Try to fix the broken
mem_malloc() first. Don't try fixing anything that isn't broken.
Why it isn't broken: if an SNMP request fails because malloc fails,
that isn't a problem. The agent will (try to) return an 'error too big', so
the manager is *informed* to try a smaller query.
Or the manager may try later in a few seconds when the system has released
other malloced blocks.
Malloc fragmentation failures are only an issue when you need *guaranteed*
memory allocation. For SNMP or DHCP or most other TCP/IP protocols there is
no such requirement.
