Hold on, step back here. What problem are you trying to solve?

What you are describing sounds like a problem in your port, not in lwIP. I,
and I'm sure many others, have no problems with netif_add and tcpip_init in a
multi-thread environment.

I'm concerned that you are getting ahead of yourself adding potentially
unnecessary code to lwIP.

I'm also concerned that you wanted to open this for other comments, but only
waited 24 hours before checking things in!

Anyway, since I personally have no problems with netif_add running after
tcpip_init, I would be interested in knowing what the problem you are trying
to fix really is.
