How does LilyPond handle missing Unicode glyphs?

Hi,
I have created a short example in [1] which has some Unicode glyphs. On my local installation of LilyPond 2.20.0 on Windows 10 I get the expected output (see the attached file), whereas on LilyBin the Unicode glyphs are not rendered. How does LilyPond handle missing Unicode glyphs?
